Thanks.

I stumbled across the stuff you and Michael from Brainy Gamer had written on Braid after writing this... it was comforting to know that my concerns were being addressed by others as well. My main problem isn't always with figuring out the solutions to the puzzles... the execution troubles me as well. I'll find myself stuck on a rewind-play-rewind-play loop trying to get the timing down, then totally botching it and wondering if I even thought up the proper solution. And sometimes I had! But timing jumps and rewinds were too much for my and had to be done *just right* so I thought I had to be wrong.

I'm starting to think that maybe my brain doesn't work in the way Braid needs it to. The rewind mechanic throws me for a loop every time I pick up the controller. I wonder if years from now, once I'm properly acclimated to thinking the way the game wants me to, I'll be able to breeze through the puzzles with no effort.

Also: thanks for commenting! I love your blog. :)

Hey, I really liked your critique of Braid's artwork, it was well-reasoned and insightful.

I think a lot of people felt the way you did about Braid's puzzles, but I don't think they fall in the same category as the old adventure games. While they are super-difficult you can solve most of them by just paying close attention to how the world behaves. And it does behave in a consistent though bizarre manner. In the old adventure games there were some puzzles that no amount of observation could get you past.

PS-- Also, "zoo review" is about the best review-rubric ever.
