I’m a project leader on the web and outreach components of Civics Renewal Network. This is a massive undertaking coordinated by the Annenberg Public Policy Center that brings together 26 non-profits under an umbrella organization with the mission of raising the visibility of civics education. Partner organizations include the Library of Congress, the American Bar Association, Rock the Vote, and the U.S. Courts. The Civics Renewal Network website offers curated resources for teaching about civics, easily searchable by facets such as state standard, duration, and media type. The project launch was celebrated with a series of events across the country, including dozens of coordinated naturalization ceremonies, a constitutional preamble recitation challenge (over 800 public schools participated!), and a gathering of high school students from all 50 states in Washington, D.C., to meet with lawmakers about improving civic engagement. It’s a really cool thing, and I’m honored to be a part of it.
